The memorandum of understanding signed between the Metropolitan City of Milan and the main Dutch airline, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, through the mediation of the consultancy firm Right Hub Società Benefit, provides for the assignment of maintenance services for a section of the cycle path connecting Milan's Idroscalo to Linate Airport to a social cooperative that promotes the employment of people belonging to vulnerable groups, including those with disabilities, in accordance with Article 14 of Law 68/99.
On Monday, November 11, 2024, the first management and maintenance works on the cycle path were completed, entrusted to the young workers of the "Il Giardinone" cooperative. The work will focus primarily on greenery management and the creation of a flowerbed dedicated to the sponsoring airline, as well as the installation of information signs describing the project and guiding cyclists on their journey to Parco Lago. The affected section is part of a larger metropolitan cycle path system, called "Biciplan Cambio," which promotes sustainable mobility and connects various areas of the Milan metropolitan area. According to Marco Griguolo, Councilor for Mobility: "A new piece has been added to the achievement of our goal of combining sustainable mobility and social inclusion. I thank KLM Royal Dutch Airlines for their active commitment, as well as the Metropolitan City staff who worked on this project. Work continues on the implementation of the "Cambio" cycle path, a cycling infrastructure that will contribute to making inclusive mobility a central focus in our metropolitan area." The design and management of this sustainable and inclusive urban mobility infrastructure, in which society and the environment are interconnected, is part of the broader "Adopt a Cycle Path" program, developed by KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. In collaboration with PisteCiclabili.com, the program promotes sustainable mobility by covering the maintenance costs of cycle paths in Italian cities that wish to apply for the project.
