PNRR works on the Biciplan Cambio have started

On Thursday, November 9 2023, the Metropolitan City of Milan began construction in Sesto San Giovanni for the realization of new five cycle paths as part of the Biciplan "Cambio," a cycling infrastructure spanning over 750 km and connecting the 133 municipalities of the Milan province, with a total investment of over 450 million euros.

Vice Mayor Francesco Vassallo and Mobility Delegate Marco Griguolo, along with mayors and assessors from Sesto San Giovanni, Cinisello Balsamo, Bresso, and the president of Parco Nord, attended the start of works at the construction site of line 2. This line will connect these three municipalities until 2026 through a 4 km cycle path, costing €1,679,589, which will later extend to Monza and Lissone (https://www.cittametropolitana.mi.it/cambiobiciplan/it/linee-e-percorsi/linea/Linea-2/).

Several assessors and mayors representing the other twenty-four municipalities involved in the works of the remaining four lines also participated in this symbolic moment of sharing. These works will entail an economic commitment of approximately €60,000,000 from PNRR funds and Ministerial integration for price increases, through Integrated Urban Plans:

The construction of the super cycle paths will be completed by the first half of 2026. The construction company for line 2 was identified through standard procedures, while for lines 5, 7, 12, and 15, Invitalia was involved.

Vice Mayor Francesco Vassallo comments, "I thank all the mayors involved; we have worked synergistically for this formidable network of cycle paths, which, once completed, will revolutionize mobility between municipalities and also bring positive effects compared to other existing modes of transportation."

"We have signed agreements with almost all the municipalities, and now the conditions are right to open the construction sites," adds Marco Griguolo, mobility delegate. "In the coming days, we will also start with lines 5, 7, and 15, and finally with line 12. All the routes have been identified through a participatory process with the involved territories, of which we are proud. It is an important and not obvious result, the fruit of the commitment of the technicians of the Metropolitan City and all the Local Administrators involved who have worked hard. I want to emphasize that the safety of users is our absolute priority. For example, cyclists and car drivers will not share the same roadway since our cycle paths will be separate and not mixed. The goal we want to achieve is to reduce traffic and have safer roads for everyone."
